Teen suspected of killing mom over use of car

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — A 17-year-old teen from Waterbury has been arrested after police say he killed his mother over an argument about using the car.

Police say they have forensic evidence connecting Sacred Heart High School student Elijah Johnson to his mother’s death and have charged Johnson with murder.

UPDATE: Neighbors react to shocking events.

Johnson was arrested on Sunday. He was arraigned in Juvenile court Monday, but was then transferred to adult court.

Police believe Johnson strangled his mother, 44-year-old Kacy Austin on the morning of January 21st during an argument over the use of the car. Police say Johnson  drove the car to school that morning, but classes were dismissed early so he returned home around 11a.m. It is then police say Johnson called 911 to report he found his mother dead in their apartment at 448 Tudor Street.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Austin in the second-floor bedroom.

Johnson’s bail was set at $1 million. He will be back in superior court on March 26th.
