Smell of smoke at Monarch Place in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Several firetrucks lined the streets around Monarch Place after someone reported a smell of smoke on the third floor. They found no fire.

Executive Aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner Dennis Leger told 22News, “They can’t find the source of the smell. It may be a light fixture or a fan belt. There were no evacuations.”

22News saw seven fire trucks and four ambulances at One Monarch Place. The ambulances left, as did two fire trucks.  The situation started about 7:45 Tuesday night.

Springfield Police Lt Thomas Zarelli told 22News police were called help manage traffic as some of the fire equipment departed about 8:15 p.m. Zarelli said they were in the process of clearing the scene.

The third floor of One Monarch Place houses businesses, but not the hotel component of the building.
