(NBC News) Arctic air has settled in over much of the country as this record-setting winter continues.
Much of Texas is an icy mess.
Temperatures in some Lone Star cities dropped 50 degrees in just a few hours, with ice bringing down trees and power lines and leaving many roads and highways under a sheet of ice.
At least a dozen U.S. cities are suffering through some of their worst winters in 60 years, including Philadelphia, Detroit, Indianapolis, and New York.
It’s so cold,the Great Lakes are 90 percent covered with ice, the third highest level in history.
Cold rain is even dampening the spirit of the heartiest of party-goers, the revelers celebrating Mardi Gras in New Orleans, where the temperature is not much higher than the coldest Fat Tuesday on record, 39 degrees in 1899.
