HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – A Hampshire County children’s organization is looking for volunteers who’ll commit to helping vulnerable children.
“CASA” stands for Court-Appointed Special Advocate. Friends of Children held an informational session on CASA in Hadley Tuesday night.
CASA volunteers advocate in court for abused and neglected kids in foster care. They undergo a rigorous screening and training process, and must make a minimum 18-month commitment to CASA.
“It’s demanding,” said Jo-Anne Vanin, a 10-year CASA volunteer. “One has to go into it prepared to give it the time and the thought, the reflection that’s needed to actually determine what is in fact in the best interest of a given child.”
The CASA volunteer program is open to anyone who cares about children, survives the screening and can commit to the time required.
