Mother and 2 children homeless after Springfield fire

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – A mother and her two children were forced from their home after a fire severely damaged their home early Sunday morning.

Aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner Denis Leger told 22News the fire started just before 1:30 Sunday morning at 139 Fox Hill Road.

According to Ledger, the fire started in the kitchen after the mother was cooking on the stove and fell asleep.

A neighbor told 22News he saw the flames and tried to help.

“By the time I came out to the back door I could see the orange coming off the house, just coming back in the house trying to dial 9-1-1, I could hear the fire trucks coming in the distance,” said Fiore Frassetti.

Everyone got out of the home safely and the Red Cross is assisting the mother and her two children.
