Barnes ANG honors Olver, Knapik

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The men and women at Barnes Air National Guard Base showed their appreciation to old friends in high places.

Late Saturday afternoon the 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes saluted retired Congressman John Olver of Amherst and former State Senator Michael Knapik of Westfield. They were thanked for all the support they’ve shown the Air National Guard Base over the years. Olver retired from Congress; Knapik now works for Westfield State University.

Knapik told 22News, “The men and women of this unit have distinguished themselves as great Americans, in the truest sense of the citizen soldiers that hearken back to the colonial days of our great nation.”

104th Wing Commander James Keefe officiated as Lt. Colonel Ann Ware became the Mission Support Group Wing Commander. Colonel Edward Gunning stepped down after holding that post for 32 years.
