Known gang member arrested in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) -Detectives Michael Goggin, Christopher Bates and other members of the Springfield Police Warrant Apprehension Unit arrested a dangerous armed fugitive Friday.

At 8:20 A.M.  officers were searching to arrest 24-year-old Joseph Darco, of 280 Walnut Street. Darco, who Sgt. John Delaney told 22News is a known gang member, was wanted on a warrant for Armed Burglary.

The officers conducted an investigation and determined that Darco was hiding out at his home. When police arrived at the front door, Darco took off running to his bedroom.The officers caught up to him while he was reaching under the bed in an attempt to arm himself with a handgun. The officers were able to handcuff him without further incident.

They recovered a .38 caliber revolver from the bedroom that was fully loaded, along with Cocaine and packaging material and scales. The officers requested $100,000.00 cash bail on Darco because of his violent past.
