Preventing frozen pipes in the winter

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – We’ve been dealing with below average temperatures, and for now, there’s no end in sight to this unseasonably cold weather.

That means it’s still important for you to keep an eye on your pipes. You should keep the pipes wrapped in “heat tape” or “pipe sleeves.”

You can also keep cabinet doors open to let warmer air circulate around plumbing. External pipes exposed to the bitter cold can freeze and burst, and they can cause expensive problems.

Jason Young from Rocky’s in Agawam told 22News, “That pipe burst, you get water leaking through your house, and you get that one spot, you’re not going to be able to do anything about it except replace that piece of pipe.”

You can also add insulation to your basement, attic and crawl spaces to protect your home from frozen pipes.
