EAST WINDSOR, Conn. (AP) — Parents in East Windsor are concerned and looking for answers after several teenagers overdosed on drugs.
A 14-year-old local girl died Sunday of what police believe was a heroin overdose, and three students were taken to a hospital this week after parents say they took the anti-depressant Xanax. One of the three teens was treated in intensive care but is expected to survive.
Several parents expressed concerns about the overdoses at a town Board of Education meeting Wednesday night and questioned whether enough is being done to prevent drug abuse.
The board has scheduled a community meeting on March 11 to discuss drug abuse.
School Superintendent Theresa Kane says she’s working with police to station a school resource officer at the high school, but that may not happen before September.
