Eight people injured after accident on Route 5

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) — Eight people were taken to the hospital Thursday evening after a car collided with a Pioneer Valley Transit Authority bus on Route 5 in West Springfield.

Captain Thomas Wilkinson told 22News the accident just happened after 9:00 o’clock. He says one person from the car and seven people from the bus were transported to a nearby hospital for minor neck and back injuries.

“The accident was partially weather related,” said Wilkinson. He told 22News the concrete was “wet and slippery”. The DPW was called shortly after the accident to sand the road. The car was towed away with minor damage.
