SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice filed a formal complaint on Thursday against Baystate Health.
The nurses union said in a news release that Baystate Health violated a federal law when they asked the nurses to drop a lawsuit as part of a contract settlement.
Last December, the unionized visiting nurses at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield filed a lawsuit, claiming the hospital owes them money for unpaid hours.
Baystate Health officials told 22News they withdrew their request that the lawsuit be dropped. They said the complaint is the union’s way to put pressure on Baystate Health.
“This is a bit of an artificial drama that’s being constructed to try to pressure us to give them somewhere between a 5% and a 7% increase in the 3rd year of the contract,” said Vice President of Government Community Steven Bradley.
Baystate Health and the Visiting Nurses Union will meet again March 6th to continue to their contract negotiations.
