CHICOPEE, Mass. (Mass Appeal) – If you’re looking to cut costs for your wedding, consider making your own favors! Nancy Parent, Owner of Tiers of Joy Bakery in Ludlow, showed us how to make two delicious favors, chocolate dipped Oreos and lollipops!
Chocolate Dipping Tips:
Pour approx 1/2 a bag into a plastic, microwave safe bowl and microwave in 30 second bursts (stirring well after each cycle) for 2-3 cycles. Your last cycle may be shorter 10-20 seconds depending on the strength of your microwave. NOTE: it is very easy to burn chocolate so it is better to melt it slowly than ruin your chocolate.
It is highly recommended that you purchase the color that you want for your cookies or pops. They come in white, milk, dark chocolate, red, blue, green, yellow, pink and orange. You can always mix colors (like red with some white) if you are looking for pink, but your craft store doesn’t carry it. Special oil based colors are needed to color chocolate. Food coloring sold in grocery stores CANNOT BE USED. These colors contain water and will seize the chocolate (harden it) and ruin it.
I will also be using lollipop sticks, lollipop/favor bags, and Oreo cookie molds also easily purchased at area craft stores. Oreo molds are also found online and are modestly priced $2-$10 for a multi-cavity molds plus reasonable shipping costs. I would suggest purchasing 2-4 molds so you can do 8-16 cookies at a time.
