Fire at Holyoke multi-family home

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A section of Pleasant Street in Holyoke was closed Tuesday due to a fire at a multi-family home that caused firefighters from two cities to be called in.

Fire Capt. Anthony Cerruti told 22News that around 7:45 Tuesday morning, they received a call about fire in the second floor walls of the three-story home at 265-267 Pleasant Street.

Captain Cerruti said that firefighters only saw smoke initially, but the when they broke through the walls, there were flames that became more intense when they were exposed to the air.

The fire is currently under control, and at this point no firefighters were injured.

One third floor resident was sitting with American Medical Response crews inside the ambulance to stay warm, but no one was was complaining of any injuries caused by the fire.

The damage to the home is significant.  Captain Cerruti told 22News the residents will not be able to return home for the time being, and that the Red Cross was expected to assist them.

The Chicopee Fire Department was also at the home to assist Holyoke firefighters.
