WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – You don’t have to drive far these days to feel your wheels thump in a pothole.
Potholes have been causing expensive problems for western Massachusetts drivers this winter. 22News saw several potholes on Court Street in Westfield.
We also talked to a West Springfield driver who’s not surprised that the Route 5 tunnel had to be closed for a month-and-a-half because of potholes.
Wendell Jackson of West Springfield told 22News, “You try to maneuver yourself around them. You try not to go as fast as you normally would go make sure your car stays safe.”
The state Department of Transportation is using temporary “cold patch” to fix potholes. Once the temperatures warm up, they’ll use “hot mix” asphalt as a longer-term patch.
