Easthampton crash victim flown to hospital; East Street re-opened

EASTHAMPTON, Mass (WWLP)– The victim of a one-car crash on East Street in Easthampton has been flown by helicopter to a Connecticut hospital.

East Street is detoured at Route 5 and at Ferry Street.

Police Capt. Robert Alberti told 22News that Chang Hwang, 53, of Easthampton was almost home when his van crashed into a telephone pole around the area of 89 East Street around 2:30 A.M.

Hwang was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, but was flown to Hartford Hospital after 6:30 Monday morning. Alberti says that Hwang’s injuries are very serious.

East Street was closed to all traffic between Route 5 and Ferry Street for hours from the morning commute into the early afternoon, before being re-opened around 2:00 P.M.
