E. Longmeadow Big Y re-opened after package scare

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – The Big Y supermarket and Home Goods stores in East Longmeadow have been re-opened, after a suspicious package report had cleared them of employees and shoppers.

East Longmeadow Police Sgt. Denis Sheehan told 22News a duffel bag was left near the entrance of the Big Y store around noon Monday.

The North Main Street stores were evacuated while the State Police Bomb Squad and State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated.

Sgt. Sheehan said the bag contained personal items, and the stores reopened around 2:00 P.M.
