Powerball fever in Franklin County

There’s still a few hours left to buy your Powerball tickets. Wednesday night’s drawing is offering up a really big jackpot.

Powerball is played here in Massachusetts, 42 other states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands. All you need is two bucks and a dream.

Franklin County residents came from all over to hopefully pick the same numbers as lady luck. It’s a 400-million dollar jackpot. The sixth largest in U.S. lottery history.

“I think it’s worth giving it a try. The money. I’d take care of my family, definitely. My mother, myself. I probably wouldn’t be working anymore,” said Warren Peterson of Colrain.

Others think it’s a waste.

“I just don’t feel like it’s really a good use of money. It wouldn’t be a business if the people got ahead on it,” said Bill Goldfarb of Gill.

Others still, just don’t know how to play.

“If I knew how it works I’d probably buy one,” said Haley Laramie of Gill.

All you have to do is match all six numbers. Five white balls, and the power ball. You can pick your own combination, or let a machine do it for you.

It’s two bucks a ticket or three bucks for the power play option. Your odds of winning are 1 in 175-million. But if it’s your lucky day.

“Oh definitely, even in the snowstorm they’ll come out. You can’t win if you don’t play and they all know it,” said Kristie Faufaw, the Co-Owner of Ryan & Casey Liquors.

Recent lottery rules changes are making these huge jackpots more common. If nobody wins, it’ll continue to grow, with the next drawing on Saturday.

We’ll have your winning combination on 22News at 11.
