Payless payday for Holyoke Geriatric Authority workers

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Holyoke Geriatric Authority employees were upset over receiving notice late Wednesday afternoon that they won’t be getting paid until next Tuesday, a delay of five days.

A “Geriatric Authority of Holyoke” memo forwarded to 22News reads: “Due to circumstances beyond our control the Thursday, February 20 payroll date is delayed until Tuesday, February 25.  We will be back on our regular payroll schedule on Thursday, February 27.  Of course that means you will receive 2 checks next week.”

A nurse who answered the phone at the Geriatric Authority, but declined to provide her name, confirmed that the memo went out at 2:55 Wednesday afternoon.  She expressed frustration because of house-hold budget concerns and auto-pay arrangments in place in employee checking accounts.

The Geriatric Authority of Holyoke is located at 45 Lower Westfield Road.  It is an 80-bed nursing home that also provides day-care services and employs 100 people.

22News efforts to contact GAH officials and Mayor Alex Morse have so far been unsuccessful.
