STURBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) – State Police had shutdown a section of the westbound side of the Massachusetts Turnpike in Sturbridge because of a jack-knifed tractor trailer unit.
The TT unit was blocking both lanes of travel near the 75 mile marker. State Police worked to remove the tractor trailer from the highway. No word yet if anyone is injured.
According to the MassDOT twitter, around 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, all lanes were re-opened on the westbound side on Interstate 91 in Sturbridge.
State Police were called to several accidents Tuesday afternoon as a result of the snow. The speed limit on the Massachusetts Turnpike was reduced to 40 miles per hour from the New York border to Boston.
Accidents forced the closure of the Mass Pike westbound in Ludlow near Exit 7 earlier in the day. State Police have since reopened all lanes for travel.
State Police were also called to a roll-over accident on I-291 in Springfield. No one was injured in that accident.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Twitter page, 1,692 crews were treating and plowing the roads where necessary.
