Storm bringing more snow to WMass

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – AWinter Storm Warning is in effect for eastern Franklin County, and Winter Weather Advisory for the rest of western Massachusetts into Tuesday night, as snow falls across the region.

The Winter Storm Warning will be in effect through 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. A Winter Storm Warning is declared when six or more inches of snow is expected within a 12 hour period, or eight or more inches of snow is expected in a 24 hour period.

The Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. A Winter Weather Advisory is issued when snow or ice is expected to develop in the area, but accumulations are expected to be light.

22News Storm Team Meteorologist Ashley Baylor says that a “clipper-type” storm system will move through from the west on Tuesday, bringing us anywhere from 2-5” of snow in most of the region, with 4-7″ possible in eastern Franklin County and points east. Clipper storms generally move pretty quickly, and a big change in the weather will be on the way for the rest of the week.

The falling snow is making travel more difficult around the state. The speed limit has been reduced to 40 miles per hour along the entire Massachusetts Turnpike, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
