MANSFIELD, Mass. (WPRI) – A student pilot walked away from a rough landing at the Mansfield Municipal Airport Saturday morning.
Police say that the student pilot was practicing landings in a single-engine Cessna at about 9:30 when he came in too low on his approach. The plane’s landing gear hit a snow bank just west of the runway, resulting in damage to the right wheel.
When the pilot touched down, the right gear leg snapped and the plane skidded off the right side of the runway, causing about $45,000 in damage to the aircraft.
The pilot was unhurt, and investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration arrived later in the morning.
