SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Symphony Orchestra is in tune for its fifth annual Black History month concert Saturday night at Symphony Hall.
The Louie Armstrong tribute will honor the sounds of New Orleans. Trumpet Master Byron Stripling will play Louie Armstrong legendary music, just as Stripling did in the Broadway show “Satchmo”.
22News spoke with Byron Stripling this afternoon during a reception in his honor. Stripling made no secret that Louie Armstrong has been his hero.
“In my house music was a central thing that was always happening. So when I heard the music It immediately lifted me, I had in his horn, I heard the sound that we always associated with him, that big keyboard smile, looked like a big piano,” said Byron Stripling.
Saturday night’s Black History month concert at Springfield Symphony Hall began at 7:30 p.m.
