Animal hospital thanked after wounded dog’s recovery

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Since he was first rescued, 22News has covered the story of “Scrunchy,” the injured little dog from Ludlow, that captured the hearts of Western Massachusetts animal lovers.

On Friday, Scrunchy and his new owners thanked the staff at Boston Road Animal Hospital in Springfield.

The one-year-old Pomeranian mix now has a new name, “Jameson.”

His new owner, Alison Metcalf, told 22News that it’s inspiring that so many people care about this little dog.

“Everybody realizes there’s an innocence in animals. It brings out everyone’s better side when there’s an injured animal,” Metcalf said.

She told 22News that since she adopted Jameson, he’s now also enjoying the love of the other animals in her household, including two dogs and two cats.

The dog’s former owner, Ricardo Costa of Ludlow is charged with felony cruelty or maiming of an animal, for an incident in which he allegedly beat the dog with pruning loppers and left him in a snow bank.
