Restaurants ready for a busy Valentine’s Day

HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – Valentine’s Day is this Friday, and it will be a busy one for local restaurants.

A recent National Retail Federation survey says that half of Americans plan to do something special for their loved ones this Valentine’s Day.

Aside from chocolates and greeting cards, three in 10 plan to go out to eat. Zoe’s Fish House Owner Jim Sands told 22News that he’s expecting steady crowds throughout the weekend.

Sands says that they will cash-in on double a normal weekend’s sales, which will help his business stay afloat until the summer.  Sands said that he is planning to add extra staff, and will roll out a new menu for the occasion.

“Because it’s on a Friday, we’re expecting a great weekend.  Plus, we have Presidents Day on Monday, which means the whole weekend will be really great. And we need that, because it’s been an exceptionally harsh winter,” he said.

The survey says that two out of 10 people will also spend money on their friends, colleagues, and even their pets for Valentine’s Day.
