Police standoff on Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge in Holyoke

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A man has been arrested after a police standoff on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge Saturday night.

Holyoke Police Lieutenant Larry Cournoyer told 22News that police were called to the Vietnam Veterans Bridge at 9 o’clock Saturday night for a man shooting at pedestrians crossing the bridge.

Police saw the man on the bridge with the gun in his hand. When they order him to drop the weapon he refused.

According to Lt. Cournoyer, police drew their guns and after a standoff, police tackled the man and disarmed him.

He will be arraigned in Holyoke District Court on Monday.
