Fewer jobs created in January than expected

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Employers added fewer jobs than expected in January.  The Labor Department announced on Friday employers added 113,000 jobs last month.

The national unemployment rate is now at 6.6 percent.  Many people hope the jobs being added are high-paying jobs that offer health benefits.

They told 22News a lot of people continue to work two or three jobs to make ends meet.

“I just think there’s still a lot more than we can do. You know, people may have a part time job but everything costs so much. I don’t think that compensates for any increase,” Renee Albe of Agawam said.

Here in Massachusetts, the jobless number is slightly higher than the national average, it’s at 7%.
