SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man and woman have been arrested after Springfield police allegedly found more than 700 bags of heroin in their car and in an apartment that the man was renting from his grandparents.

Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Christina Monroe, 21, and Joshua Larace, 29, of Springfield face heroin distribution charges following their arrest Thursday night.

Delaney says that narcotics detectives had been investigating the couple’s drug dealing activities for the past month. Police had their Undine Circle home under surveillance, and allegedly saw the couple make deliveries around the city Thursday.

Officers stopped them around 8:00 after Delaney says they were making another delivery at Wilbraham Road and Walsh Street. Police searched the car, where they found 200 bags of heroin.

After arresting Monroe and Larace, officers searched the couple’s basement apartment, which they were renting from Larace’s grandparents. In the apartment, Delaney says they discovered 520 bags of heroin and $2,000 in cash, in addition to scales and packaging material.

Both Monroe and Larace are scheduled to be arraigned in Springfield District Court.
