Springfield man arraigned in deadly Easthampton crash case

Mauricio Velasquez daughter died in the crash

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Bail has been set at $100,000 cash for a Springfield man charged in a drunken driving crash that killed his young daughter and an elderly driver in Easthampton.

According to Mary Carey of the Northwestern DA’s office, Mauricio Velasquez was arraigned Thursday in Hampshire County Superior Court on two counts each of motor vehicle homicide with alcohol and negligence, manslaughter while under the influence and manslaughter.

Easthampton Police said Velasquez was drunk when his van collided head-on with a truck on Hendrick Street in December, killing his 3-year-old daughter and 71-year-old Charles Hoffman of Easthampton.

His next court appearance is set for June 4th.
