Cold weather keeps heating bills high

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – You will have to wait a little longer for the first signs of spring. The first official day of spring is March 20th.

That means many of us may have to continue cranking up the heat to keep warm, but the cost of staying warm is taking a toll on our wallets.

National Grid reported on Thursday, during the month of January, gas usage in New England twice reached the second highest total on record for the company.

“I tried to put plastic on the windows and all that kind of stuff. Try to do what you can do to save some money, but what are you going to do, you got to pay it,” Joe Lees of West Springfield said.

National Grid offers payment plans and deferred payment agreements to help those who cannot pay their heating bills on time.
