30 sick cats saved from WMass “kitten mill”

SAVOY, Mass. (AP) – Animal welfare authorities say they have rescued more than 30 sick cats from an apparent “kitten mill” run out of a Savoy home.

Carrie Loholdt, the Berkshire County town’s animal control officer, says the homeowner faces multiple animal cruelty charges.

The homeowner’s name was not immediately made public.

Authorities executed a search warrant at the home last week in response to complaints from neighbors.

Loholdt tells The Berkshire Eagle the cats were being sold online.

She says many suffered from severe upper respiratory infections to the point where blood was seeping from their noses and mouths. A few had infections so severe that their eyes will have to be removed. They also had ear mites and fleas.

The cats will be kept at shelters until well enough for adoption.
