NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (WWLP) – The Berkshire County fire departments of North Adams and Adams fought to put out a fire at All Saints Episcopal Church Saturday night.
The church is located at 59 Summer Street in the center of North Adams.
The fire started shortly before 8 o’clock Saturday night on the third floor of the church.
Lt. Goodson said major fire and smoke damage was contained to the third floor, but water damaged both the first and second floors.
Mass was cancelled Sunday morning at All Saints Episcopal Church due to the fire that caused extensive smoke and water damage inside and especially in the Church hall connected to the Church.
Parishioners stopped by all morning. They received a call saying Mass was cancelled.
One parishioner told 22News Meals on Wheels couldn’t deliver food because the prepared meals were contaminated from water and smoke damage.
Bill, a vestry member, told 22News the fire was contained to the Church hall but they had to cancel Mass because there was no way of preventing people from going to and from the hall as well.
They also shut off the electric during the investigation.
The fire was in a room where they hold day care during Mass and have other Church functions.
