Gas pipeline proposed to Franklin County

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) A new natural gas pipeline might be coming to Franklin County. Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company is working on a proposal for a 250 mile project in Franklin County.

An official application with detailed maps hasn’t been filed with state environmental regulators just yet. However, the company has sent letters to residents and city officials about their plans.

22News spoke with some residents about the proposal and their main concern is the pipeline’s impact on the county’s economy.

Regan Gorneault of Leyden told 22News, “I think it would be a good thing if it could bring jobs because Franklin County has been really hurt by the loss of jobs over the last few years so it would be really nice to see that happen.”

In that letter, the company expects to create at least 3,000 jobs during the peak construction period.

If the project is approved construction will begin spring 2017 with hopes the line will be up and running by the winter of 2018.
