(WWLP) – The winter storm last week gave Governor Deval Patrick more time to put the finishing touches on his State of the Commonwealth address, which he will make Tuesday night at the State House.
The governor is not seeking re-election, so this is his last State of the Commonwealth, with just about a year left of his term. To some voters that makes him a “lame duck,” but Patrick insists that he will have a strong finish; leaving a memorable mark.
We talked to voters here in western Massachusetts, who said that they don’t miss these speeches in order to stay informed on issues at the state and local level. Attention may have started to shift to who’s next, but a year is still plenty of time for change.
“I think very often people get focused on the next election, but if there’s a year to go, whether it’s locally or nationally, we need to think of now and the next year, and think of that next election when it comes,” Hank Heaphy of Northampton said.
You can watch Governor Patrick’s final State of the Commonwealth address live on 22News Tuesday night at 7:30. It will also be streaming live on WWLP.com on any device.
