(NBC News) While the job market is showing some signs of recovery, challenges in the economy are still taking a toll on the long term unemployed.
Millions of Americans are still having a tough time finding a job, and the struggles are apparent; at least 30 percent of the workforce say they haven’t been able to get an interview after being unemployed for 12 months or longer. That’s according to Careerbuilder.com.
Of those who have been unemployed for at least a year, 25 percent say they haven’t had enough money for food and one in ten have lost their homes.
92 percent of workers ages 55 and older say one of the major challenges of getting a job is their age, while 63 percent say that employers are becoming less responsive the longer they are unemployed.
