CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) Our stretch of bitterly cold weather continues but we have seen some pretty dramatic temperature swings this month.
We saw lots of sunshine Friday but it did very little to warm us up. Temperatures were only in the teens during the afternoon and the wind chill made it feel like it was below zero.
We’ve seen quite a swing in temperatures this month to record lows to temperatures up near 60.
Back on January 3rd and 4th temperatures dropped down well below zero. Then a week later we experienced near record warmth with temperatures in the upper 50s.
Wet weather and the dramatic change in temperatures made a mess out of many streets with potholes opening up all over.
Now the bitterly cold weather is back and it’s been sticking around.
“It is a little bit unusual compared to other winters but I’ve seen worse than this. It doesn’t really affect me at all. I’m used to the weather here in the northeast,” said Jim Mckee of Rowe.
“It’s hard, I don’t know what to think of my heating bill. I’m out today because I’m afraid my car won’t start if I don’t go somewhere in it,” said Gretchen Kibbe of West Springfield.
Our average high temperature for this time of year is 32 degrees and our average low temperature is 15.
