Laura Hutchinson

(WWLP) – Laura Hutchinson is an investigative reporter and part of the 22News I-Team. She also moderates the station’s award-winning public affairs program, 22News inFocus, and anchors the 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. weeknight newscasts.

Laura was honored with an 2012 Emmy nomination for her investigative work. Her investigations into panhandling were selected as “Best Story” in 2012 by the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association, and she was honored by Western Mass Women Magazine as one of the Top 25 Women to Watch in 2011. She also won an Associated Press award for an interview she did with Governor Deval Patrick in 2013 on 22News inFocus.

Some of Laura’s most memorable stories include covering the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012, the deaths of two western Massachusetts police officers in 2012, the June 1, 2011 tornado in western Massachusetts, and the Hartford Distributors mass shooting in 2010.

Laura is frequently seen moderating local political debates in western Massachusetts. She was also honored to serve as moderator of the Massachusetts Gubernatorial Debate in 2010.

Laura’s reporting and anchoring career started at WENY-TV News in Elmira, N.Y. Before that, she was working behind the scenes in the control room for the CW Philly Wakeup News in Philadelphia. Laura earned her degrees in broadcast journalism and political science in Philadelphia at Temple University. She also met her husband at Temple! They currently reside in northern Connecticut.
