(WWLP) – Laura Hutchinson is the anchor of your first news in the morning! She is up bright and early to bring you the day’s top stories from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. When she’s not anchoring, she works as one of the station’s investigative reporters on the 22News I-Team. She also moderates the station’s award-winning public affairs program, 22News inFocus.

Laura won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for an investigative story she worked on about wait times at the Registry of Motor Vehicles. In 2012, she was honored with an Emmy nomination for her investigative work. Her investigations into panhandling were selected as “Best Story” in 2012 by the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association, and she was honored by Western Mass Women Magazine as one of the Top 25 Women to Watch in 2011. She also won an Associated Press Award for an interview she did with Governor Deval Patrick in 2013 on 22News inFocus. In 2014, the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association gave Laura the Merit Award for best on-air personality, and she was awarded the “Above and Beyond” Award for running the Boston Marathon and showcasing stories of triumph and recovery after the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.

Some of Laura’s most memorable stories include covering the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 and the June 1, 2011 tornado in western Massachusetts. She also traveled with the military to deliver supplies after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. However, her most exciting assignment to date is flying with Blue Angels!
Laura is frequently seen moderating local political debates in western Massachusetts and covering big races including the presidential primary in New Hampshire in 2012.

Laura’s reporting and anchoring career started at WENY-TV News in Elmira, N.Y. Before that, she was working behind the scenes in the control room for the CW Philly Wakeup News in Philadelphia. Laura earned her degrees in broadcast journalism and political science in Philadelphia at Temple University. Temple is also where she met her husband! They currently reside in Connecticut.
