AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – In just a few months, the people of Agawam will be getting their first YMCA.
The Y will be located at the former Foodmart on Springfield Street, near the Agawam-West Springfield bridge.
Construction started Thursday on the Agawam YMCA wellness and program center with space for group exercising.
Agawam residents told 22News, they find the physical fitness program the most appealing.
“I think it’ll be excellent. People, to me, people need more exercise today, and this is a place they can go and get a little exercise,” Bob Westforde of Agawam said.
“It’s a good thing. When I was younger, my family went to the YMCA in Albany. We went swimming, basketball; keeps everyone doing good things,” Chad Brando of Agawam said.
The Agawam YMCA is expected to open in early May.
