Ryan Walsh

(WWLP) – Ryan Walsh is an investigative reporter and part of the 22News I-Team. Ryan was the first reporter to break the story that Springfield would select MGM as its casino partner and has been the source for casino coverage in western Massachusetts.

Ryan joined 22News in October of 2006 as the station’s sports anchor. On June 1st, 2011, the day of tornado, Ryan was thrust from the sports department into the news department and never looked back.

Ryan graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University in May, 2002. While in Syracuse, Ryan began his broadcasting career as a news and sports producer at WSYR-TV, then WIXT-TV in Syracuse. In November of 2003, he landed at WIVT-TV in Binghamton, NY where he was a sports anchor/reporter for three years.

Ryan has won numerous associated press and Massachusetts Broadcaster Association awards for his investigative and sports coverage. Ryan was the first recipient of the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association “Above and Beyond Award” for his live coverage of the Black Friday gas explosion in Springfield’s Entertainment District.

Ryan grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, about 20 minutes outside of Philadelphia. The closest landmark to his hometown is the Sesame Place Amusement Park. Ryan is the youngest of three brothers, and he is ten years younger than his next closest sibling.
