WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Westfield Gas and Electric is installing digital “smart meters” for its customers.
While the majority of Westfield’s electrically heated homes already have these new meters, only about 1/3 of gas-heated homes have had this conversion so far.
No one needs to check the “smart meters.” They wirelessly send your energy usage back to Westfield Gas and Electric.
Western Massachusetts Electric Company is also exploring the possibility of installing these “smart meters.”
WG&E says this winter’s higher heating bills are because of the cold, not the meter upgrades.
