SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A propane shortage is hitting the country, meaning people will be paying higher prices to heat their homes this winter.
The shortage is due to the bitterly cold weather that blanketed the country earlier this year, and because of a wet, cool fall for farmers that resulted in them using propane to run crops through dryers.
The supply shortage is expected to send prices climbing. Experts say prices could go as high as $2.50 per gallon before leveling off.
It’s unclear how long the higher prices will last.
